LGBTIQA+ displaced people
Read our 2023-24 Impact report. We mobilised, educated and led to achieve belonging!
We Mobilise
- We provided secretariat to the Australian Coalition for LGBTIQA+ Asylum and Migration Justice and led the development of the Roadmap for Action: Achieving Asylum and Migration Justice for LGBTIQA+ Forcibly Displaced People.
- We participated and represented the voices of LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people at 6 major global events on migration issues.
- In 2023 we ran a workshop for UN member states and international NGOs on LGBTIQA+ inclusive pledging for the Global Refugee Forum.
- We have partnered with Community Refugee Sponsorship Australia (CRSA) to make it possible to sponsor an LGBTIQA+ refugee through the Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Pilot (CRISP).
We Educate
- We provide policy advice on issues of LGBTIQA+ displacement, made submissions and held a range of consultations to ensure that the voices of the community are central.
- We presented our work and the issues that LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people experience at 7 conferences, held 2 community stalls, ran 3 events and gave lectures to 2 universities including Monash University and Boston University.
- We ran 3 community workshops commissioned by the Australian Human Rights Commission focused on experiences of sexual harassment for LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people.
- We ran over 10 community consultations with LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people to build knowledge on a range of issues affecting these communities.
- We contributed our expert advise to over 10 advisory and working groups.
We lead
- We supported LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people with connections, referrals and advice.
- Together with our lived experience advisory group, we co-designed a comic book about sexual health for LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people called Together We Stand: The Pod Squad Story.
- We developed 2 new training modules:
- on inclusive practice for interpreters working with LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people
- on inclusive practice for sexual health services working with LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people
- We ran a range of training sessions, talks and webinars for settlement services, health services and sexual assault services.
