When we agree to speak at your event
Guidance
These conditions include:
- Sufficient Notice and Details: Please provide ample notice and detailed information about the event, including its purpose, intended outcomes, and key audience. If applicable, include details on the proposed composition of the panel (e.g., representation of diverse groups).
- Clear Role Definition: Outline our role in the event. Note that we will not participate or suggest another person with lived experience if their role is solely to tell their “refugee story” while other experts validate it. Our participation must be substantive and respectful of our expertise.
- Logistics and Compensation: Specify details about logistics and compensation. Will there be a payment for our participation? If the event is interstate, will travel and accommodation costs be covered?
- Safe and Inclusive Environment: We will not participate in events that spread racist, sexist, homophobic/transphobic, or ableist messages. The event must foster an inclusive and respectful environment.
- Accessibility: Ensure the event venue and materials are accessible to people with disabilities. This includes physical accessibility, sign language interpreters, and other necessary accommodations.
- Feedback Opportunity: Allow for a feedback mechanism post-event to discuss what worked well and areas for improvement, ensuring ongoing development and better advocacy.
By meeting these conditions, we can work together to create impactful and respectful platforms for discussing the experiences and needs of LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
